La Juderia (Jewish Quarter)

feetup-hostels-sevilla-la-casa-de-la-juderia

The Jewish quarter of Seville was a neighborhood in the city of Seville where Jews lived since the conquest of the city by Ferdinand III  until the their expulsionafter the "Edict of Granada" made by the Catholic Kings. Currently still known as juedería to that area of town that is built into the current Santa Cruz district.

When the city of Seville was reconquered by the Christian King Fernando III, the Jews began to settle in abundance in the city. King Alfonso IX gave them the three mosques to be reconverted as synagogues, now they are the present church of Santa Maria la Blanca, Santa Cruz and San Bartolomé.In 1492 was decreed the expulsion of Jews from Spain or their conversion to Christianity.

Today is still possible to see how the neighbourhood and it´s structure just walking by this incredible well preserved treasury of the Seville’s history..

Just around the corner is the Samay Feetup Hostel in Sevilla.
